VATA Brasil: Company
VATA Brasil is the creation
of Mario Gomes. Both Mario and his wife Ananda
are experts
in Freediving,
the sport of ocean diving to increasingly lower
depths with no equipment - only disciplined control
of the
breath and a weighted rope to guide them. They
were members of Team Canada in the World Championships
in 2004. In September 2005, Ananda placed 4th in
the World Freediving competition held in Nice,
France.
Mario, co-founder of a Vancouver IT firm, tried
to drum up support for the Freediving team, only
to find corporate sponsorship was very limited. They
formed a vision of bringing fresh new style, versatility
and renewed excitement to the fitness wear market,
and decided to form their own company to address
this need.
Mario returned to Brasil twice in 2005 & rediscovered a market rich with the sultry, sexy looks of the Latin culture, along with unique fabrics that bend, stretch, and breathe with the body.
They decided to launch VATA Brasil line in Vancouver, BC, because the people here are known as the healthiest in Canada, additionally, the mild climate draws outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. "The beauty of VATA Brasil", says Mario, "is that you can go from the Grouse Grind to the Stanley Park Seawall, to the yoga studio; from the gym or fitness center to the grocery store and still look and feel great".
